Spring is in the air

Spring is definitely in the air - I can smell it and it’s wonderful. I love being able to dry washing out on the line in Spring, even if it’s not a warm day; there’s something about the wind billowing through the clothes that leaves them smelling and feeling so fresh and light. Maybe it’s being so close to the coast now but it’s really not the same as putting clothes out in the heat of summer, that feels really brittle, but now everything’s green and new.

On a yoga training day last year we were asked what our favourite season was and why. We all had different answers, some like to snuggle down in winter, some yearn for the heat of summer. I found it hard to choose between the colours and the crisp cold smell of Autumn and the freshness and newness of Spring. Right now, I’d say Spring is my favourite but ask me again in Autumn and I’m sure I’ll say then!

Spring is the time of growth and change, as we go through each year I tend to find spring and the promise of new growth exciting. For some people it’s a time to take stock - spring cleaning your intentions if you like. For others it’s simply a new season and a time to observe and enjoy change, watching the bees at work, new flowers budding, the woods I can see from the window gradually becoming greener.

Spring is an important time to remember that whilst we can find change hard, it’s also constant, and can be positive. We practice yoga to help us find flexibility and steadiness through all the changes that are thrown at us so we can use them for growth, and go with the flow rather than getting mentally stuck or overwhelmed. I’m starting a new job this week, what can I bring of this new Spring energy and inspiration to a new role I wonder?
